Other features include a full duplex speakerphone, MicroSD memory card slot, and a long battery life with up to 5 hours of talk time.
The clamshell Nokia 6085 weighs just 3 ounces and is a great companion for fast-paced globetrotters with its quad-band connectivity and EDGE data service. |
The external blue display makes it easy to see who's calling as well as check the time and the phone's battery. | The 6085 operates on GSM 850/900/1800/1900 networks and can handle high-speed data connectivity via AT&T's EDGE network (which stands for "Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution"), with availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways. This third-generation, high-speed, mobile data and Internet access technology is fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services (with average data speeds between 75-135Kbps), including video and music clips, full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go. Featuring subtle, organic design lines, a clear keypad and an uncluttered menu structure, the elegant Nokia 6085 is further complemented by sophisticated detailing such as black soft touch paint and chrome accents. The internal 1.8-inch passive LCD has a 128 x 160-pixel resolution and 262K colors, while the external FSTN window offers a monochrome display and measures 96 x 68 pixels. The blue light display on the cover makes it convenient to see who is calling, check the time and signal/battery strength without the need to open the phone. The digital audio player is compatible with a wide variety of formats (MP3, MP4, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA) as well as protected WMA files purchased from AT&T Music and streaming 3GPP video. The 6085 also includes the Bluetooth A2DP profile, so you can listen to your favorite tunes and the built-in FM radio over a pair of Bluetooth-enabled wireless headphones. The built-in camera captures VGA (640 x 480-pixel) still photos as well as video clips up to 15 seconds in length. It has a 4x digital zoom, and the phone includes in-camera editing features. Pictures, videos and music can be stored and shared using the optional hot-swappable microSD memory card, which offers up to 2 GB storage (the phone, itself, offers only 4 MB of memory). The 6085 offers wireless connectivity via Bluetooth technology, making communication--such as synchronization between phone and PC, transferring images or usage of wireless enhancements--with other devices quickly and easily. To enable staying in touch with family and friends, the 6085 offers comprehensive functions for easy messaging and voice communication, including MMS, Nokia Xpress audio messaging, enhanced email and instant messaging via AIM, Yahoo!, and MSN. There's also a built-in web browser for MEdia Net downloads and mobile web browsing. AT&T's MEdia Net service lets you do more than just stream videos--it lets you receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more. The T9 predictive text entry technology is built into the unit, which makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets--a plus for mobile email and text messaging users. More features include: - Enhanced voice dialing with SIND: Speaker-independent name dialing on long press volume down key
- Integrated handsfree speaker with new high quality speaker for better audio experience
- Personal Information Management (PIM) tools: calendar, to-do list, notes, expense manager, alarm clock, countdown timer

SCREEN DEFECT November 9, 2008 For the first year that I owned this phone, I thought it was a decent option for it's relatively cheap price. The talk quality was good, the bluetooth was nice, the camera actually took surprisingly decent pictures, and the battery life was okay.
Just past the 1 year mark, the screen started blinking for unknown reasons (I hadn't dropped it or damaged it in any other way when this started). Within a few days, the screen has become completely useless. It is now solid blue or white whenever I open the phone. LOOK THIS UP. It seems to be a COMMON PROBLEM with this model (see the support section of the Nokia website). I've only owned one of these phones, but I suspect this is a design flaw, based on other users' comments. Of course, the one year warranty has just passed.
Makes a great pocket watch November 3, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
For years I carried a Razor. Its main attraction is the different bands. Well this phone also has those bands; the 6085 operates on GSM 850/900/1800/1900.
Now I just need a phone. Not some flimsy toy to hang off my belt but a phone. The main purpose of the phone was emergencies however it has become my main number. The only practical extra needed was Bluetooth as I did not want to be strangled by a wire.
The great advantage is the phone is in my pocket with keys and loose change. When I do want to use it just a few buttons take me directly to the hand full of numbers I use. I also do not look like a phone snob.
I made a deal with the provider not to have extraneous text messages. The other features are just rotting as they just came with the phone whether you used them or not.
This critter is inexpensive and if it should fall apart, which I seriously doubt, I can pick up another one as they are very inexpensive.
  It's a decent phone. But ... September 10, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Overall, this phone is OK. The mini display is to dark to see because of the background color and the small font. I agree with other reviewers about the manual. This is the worst manual I've seen. Also I find nowhere in the manual which tell how to set up the Speakerphone feature. Anyone knows how to do this?

this phone might not be the best quality phone on the market, but it sure is admirably tough. i've gone through 2 of these phones (kind of contradicts what i just said...but just wait)... the first time i was jogging and it flipped out of my coat pocket and smashed against the concrete. the screen was broken sideways, so nothing was coming up...obviously. however, i could still dial numbers! (blindly of course)... but the day came when the front screen just popped off... so onto the new one.
this last one just won't die... i want it to so i can get a new one... but man, it sure is hanging on. at work one day i smashed the front against a wall on accident, so the front screen (when the phone is closed...that front) just shows cracks. the back lid won't stay on, i've had to tape it on forever now. this means that the battery is very vulnerable to popping off easily. this has all happened in the shower (hanging your arms out of the shower to text probably isn't the best idea) on two occasions. the battery was wet, and more importantly the inside of the phone got wet. well, after a brief drying off period, boom! it was back in the game. i've found that cell phones are convenient things to throw when you're upset, so my phone has dealt with plenty of this. it has gotten to the point however... where the screen won't come up when i open the phone. i've found however that if i keep flipping it open, after 20 or so flips the screen will pop up... yes this is a hassle. i don't shut my phone any more :-)
no this isn't the best quality phone... it's very basic. but after the beating this thing has taken, it deserves some credit. thrown, drenched, dropped... still finds that it can function. if you're a phone junkie and loves endless options... well this isn't the phone for you. if you're like me and use your phone for calls and texting only and you find that you're a phone abuser and like to make things last as long as possible... well, then this is a decent choice.
Nice but could be much better...... August 4, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have had the phone for about 2 weeks now and so far the phone is nice but could be better in some aspects. The manual is thick but very generic on how to use the phone. It simply explains what each item is rather then how to use each item clearly. The speaker is a bit finicky and somewhat low. Maybe I am looking in the wrong section but to hear the ring-tones to pick one out it is so low you need to hold it directly to your ear and that is with the volume all the way up. The loaded ring-tones are basically useless and outright stink. The voice dialing is useless and makes error over and over again. You can not.....and I repeat you CAN NOT create your own "Voice Dialing Tags"....it is automatic and can not be edited. For instance......If one name in your Address Book is "Timmy"....now we all know how to pronounce it I am sure......but the phone sees it as "Tim-eye" and it can not be edited......which I think is really stupid. So I don't use the function due to the uslessness of it. Overall the phone is OK and it does what it is supposed to do but it could do it a little better in my opinion. I would recommend this phone if you want just a basic phone, it gets you by....
