Amazon.com Product Description
Improving on the original Z9, the enhanced BlueAnt Z9i Bluetooth headset incorporates a number of new features and packaged accessories with a focus on comfort and wearability. BlueAnt has refined its Voice Isolation Technology software to improve the Z9i's noise suppression, echo cancellation and wind noise reduction capabilities.

Thanks to BlueAnt's Voice Isolation Technology, the Z9i provides outstanding noise suppression, echo cancellation and wind noise reduction.

It comes with both large and small interchangeable ear gels, as well as two types of ear hook.
The Z9i includes both large and small interchangeable ear gels, as well as two types of ear hook: the original translucent style and a more ergonomic, rubberized metal ear hook. It also offers an innovative tie clip lets you attach the V1 headset to your shirt or cuff when not in use.

The Z9i incorporates dual microphones allowing for BlueAnt's patented Voice Isolation Technology, a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) software solution that uses advanced techniques to separate the user's voice signal from all other sounds, enhancing and isolating all frequencies that affect voices coming into and out of the headset. This results in outstanding environmental noise reduction, echo cancellation and wind noise protection. You can choose between dual Voice Isolation modes: Standard for use in normal environments to remove mild background noise, and Max, which provides superior voice clarity for use in extremely noisy environments.

The BlueAnt Z9i works with Bluetooth version 2.0 and its multi-point technology allows you to connect simultaneously to two phones and answer the one that rings. The Z9i can now connect with up to five Bluetooth devices (instead of the Z9's three). Automatic reconnect also finds the last cell phone or device paired, and automatically reconnects.

Features

  • Two microphones for pure speech
  • Multipoint technology allows connection to two phones simultaneously
  • Automatic connection and reconnection with notification
  • Different ring-tones for known and unknown contacts
  • Innovative tie clip for attaching to shirt or cuff, when not in use

4 out of 5 stars Top of the line is still below the bar   October 7, 2008
4 stars because as good as the BlueAnt is, I believe the bar is still too low for these type of devises. Voice quality should be better (even more natural sounding), listening volume should be louder; while the person I am talking to can easily and clearly hear me above typical mixed ambient noise levels, I often can not say the same. In my car, windows have to be rolled up to hear the callee, even tough they can hear me just fine. Walking my dog, should a noisy car or God forbid a motorcycle drive by, forget it, there is no way I can hear the callee even though they hear me just fine. BlueAnt is the value leader for high-end Bluetooth Headsets, pairs easily to most phones and is easy to use. One can purchase two of these to one of the arguably better Jawbone II's; do the math it's a no brainer and buy the BlueAnt.

4 out of 5 stars Good headset at a reasonable price   October 6, 2008
This is a great little headset - the noise cancellation works well, which was the main reason I bought it - I've tried it driving down the highway with the windows open and music blasting, and the person on the other end can hear me fine. The noise cancellation does work best when I am speaking, and not as well when I am silent.

It is plenty loud on my end in all but the loudest situations. It fits well in my ear.

The battery seems to last as long as advertised. The charger is proprietary, but the headset comes with both a usb and a wall charger, so I've not had any trouble with that.

My only complaint is that there is crackling if anything gets in between it and the phone it's connected to. Previous headsets I've used were not nearly as sensitive to this kind of interference. I can still hear the person on the other end in this case, but it is a bit annoying. On the other hand, I've not heard complaints about crackling from the person on the other end, so it appears to be localized to the user of the headset.

All around a great headset at a great price. I'd highly recommend it as long as the crackling won't bother you too much.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent, sensitive and clear   October 4, 2008
I purchased this after mistakenly buying a Jabra 2010, via which my wife could not hear anything I said. I debated between this and the jawbone, but the $60 differential swayed me, and I am thrilled I made the right decicion: this BlueAnt Z9i is crisp, clear, and comfortable. It links perfectly with my iPhone 3G, the speaker is brilliant, the microphone (double mike) is very sensitive, but does not generate distortion, the battery life is very long, and the earbud/hook combo is very comfortable, indeed. And it has a nifty USB plug for quick recharging from my Macbook. An excellent accessory for any phone, I'm sure. I would buy a BlueAnt product again in a heartbeat. Well done, Mates!

3 out of 5 stars Sounds Decent on Other End, To Soft on My End   October 3, 2008
I've had the Z9i for over a month now and have used it quite a bit. The size and weight is very nice. I am able to wear it for long periods of time without too much discomfort. Sometimes the middle back of my ear begins to hurt and this maybe because I've only used the metal ear loop. Someday I'll try the other but have been afraid I would break it.

When I've left voicemail for myself using the device the voice has been generally good and background noise has been reduced. However, some of those noises are reduced to sqeaks or other types of noises that I do not know how to describe but some of my callers have reported to be annoying.

While I am generally pleased with the product I find that the volume of the device is far below, even at maximum levels, to hear well in even a relatively low noise environment. I can make this better by manually pressing the device further into my ear but since this essentially rests on your ear instead of fitting inside, the benefit is only temporary.

All in all, I was happier, on my end, with my Plantronics 510. I could wear it all day in total comfort and the selectable ear piece provided a more focused delivery into my ear.

If I could replace the ear piece on the Z9i with something that would fit and stay better in my ear, I would probably be just as happy with it.

5 out of 5 stars I like it!   October 2, 2008
The BlueAnt headset fits comfortably, and for me, that is difficult. I've used several headsets and always come back to the Jabra that wraps around the ear and has the earpiece going into the ear canal. The Jabra fits and stays on fairly well, but after a few hours the back of my ear begins to hurt. The BlueAnt wraps around the ear as well but the earpiece does not go into the ear canal. It stays on better than the Jabra, and my brother tells me he can hear me perfectly well, as I can hear him. The only fault I see is that I hit the on/off/answer button too often when putting it on, which I hope will stop as I get more accustomed to it. It is lighter and stays on better, and fits more comfortably around the ear so no pain, even after several hours. AND it is cheaper than the Jabra. AND it does not get tangled with my earrings! Yep, I like it!
