Good Phone Hard To Text July 8, 2008 The phone is really neat, has lots of cool tools but if you are an avid texter it is a real struggle. The joystick is very sensitive and will send the text early if you are trying to space over so its kind of a pain.
Nice. July 7, 2008 I knew I wanted this phone after the first commercial. I've had it for about 3 weeks, and it has yet to disappoint me.
Battery life is awesome. I charge it every night, if it needs it or not. I can talk for a combined 5-6 hours before one of the battery bars goes down. I can go about 4-5 days with short conversations before I have to charge it again.
The camera is pretty nice, if not a little slow. The "Flash" makes a better flashlight than camera flash, unless you want to blind someone. You have to be within 2 feet of the subject in order for the flash to work.
The screen is kinda of annoying; having to clean it off all the time, but I knew I was going to have to do that when I bought a phone with a mirror surface. The same with texting. I text an awful lot, and the keys are small, but I don't mind it. Again, I knew what I was getting into when I bought the thing.
So far the only con I have found with the CU720 is how long it takes to come on. At least a minute to a minute and thirty seconds. That's just a little too long...
I would definitely recommend the CU720.
Pretty, but not practical July 6, 2008 I have the red LG Shine phone and I do not like it at all. I am going to go back to my old Sony Ericsson. The Shine is pretty, but that is about it. It is not very practical to use. The navigation joystick is tiny and impossible to use, especially when texting. When you try to push it left or right, it is easy to accidentally push it down instead which often causes the text message you are writing to send before you are done with it. Another problem with texting I have had is that the phone fills in words for you that you have used in previous text messages and if you aren't looking at the screen while typing sometimes you end up with totally random words inserted into your message. The main problem I have with this phone is not being able to hear the people on the other end. On the low volume settings, it is too quiet, and when you turn it up louder, the conversation becomes louder, but muffled. I have to say 'What?' about every other sentence and my fiance gets very annoyed with me, but I can't do anything about it! I have also had trouble connecting the bluetooth to my Garmin Nuvi GPS and I didn't have any trouble connecting my old phone to it. I am not patient enough to deal with all these problems, especially not being able to hear what people are saying! I'm selling this phone and going back to my old one that I had no qualms with!!
It's a good looking phone.... June 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
...but it definitely has some issues. I purchased one for my niece as an upgrade from AT&T. First off she was unable to get her SIM card recognized by the new phone and had to wait and go to the dealer. I thought maybe it was her, but I just got a Z9 and was able to pop my card in and go with no extra issues. Then she lost the first phone :( So I got another one through AT&T because I have the insurance (this is before I knew about Amazon...) I have the second phone sent straight to me and have been trying to get some music and stuff on it for her. And I don't know for sure if it is the USB cable, or the phone but I could not get music to transfer AT ALL. I had to purchase a memory card reader. (At this point I am also cussing my computer that has a supposed SD card slot that does not seem to work at all!) The memory card reader had no problems at all. Now, like I said, I just got a Z9, and was able to transfer music straight to my phone with nar an issue.
When I google, this seems to be a fairly common issue with the SD card and having the phone recognized by your computer. The best I can tell is that you will need to find the drivers on the net and download them and even still, it will be a hassle.
The other thing I notice is the little covers for the USB and SD seem very fragile. The phone is very attractive and somewhat sturdy but I could see it getting snapped in half easily to. The keys are fine to me, but the lip at the bottom is a bit annoying (the Z9 has no lip and otherwise looks about the same). It seems like a fairly good basic phone with some very nice features installed. I wish I has only paid a cent for it through Amazon though because otherwise it is not worth it!
I do like the little joystick....especially for playing the Ms Pacman demo ;)
Bluetooth STINKS June 22, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this phone from AT&T after 2 hours searching for the "right" phone. I loved it from the start. True, it DID have a shorter than usual battery life, but my lifestyle and usage allowed me to charge at almost any time, so it was never an issue. For 6 weeks, I loved the phone. I even talked a friend into buying one for herself.
Then the Bluetooth connection went haywire. I could not re-connect my Plantronics earpiece. I called Plantronics and we tested things until we came to the conclusion that it was NOT the earpiece. I called AT&T and was told, rather rudely, that it was NOT AT&T, but WAS, in fact, Plantronics. After hanging up on AT&T, I went to the local AT&T store where we confirmed that it WAS the phone. They sent me a new one and for 8 hours, it worked. Another new one was sent, and another 8 hours of working, then NOTHING.
Meanwhile, I'm talking to people who also have the Shine, and they all report the same problem. My friend, who bought the Shine, was now on HER 4th one, awaiting the arrival of a new Motorola. We both had called LG and were told that there were no known issues with the phone or with its Bluetooth. How could the NOT know?? The person I talked to would not even allow me to talk to a person higher up the chain than herself.
So, My recommendation is that you not only stay away from the Shine, I suggest you avoid LG products TOTALLY!!!
