Amazon.com Product Description After creating a gadget/fashion icon in the original MOTORAZR, Motorola has upped the ante with the new RAZR2 V8 with cutting edge technology and enhanced features that make it even easier to use. Offered from T-Mobile, it features 512 MB of internal flash memory, quad-band GSM connectivity for roaming the globe, and quick downloads via the EDGE data network. It's fully loaded with an arsenal of digital tools, including a 2-megapixel camera/camcorder, Bluetooth connectivity for streaming music and photo printing, dual color LCD screens, e-mail access, digital audio player, and full duplex speakerphone. And speaking of cutting edge, the phone's stainless steel internal frame and cast aluminum housing support makes the RAZR2 V8 stronger and more durable than its predecessor. T-Mobile Service
Sleeker, smarter, stronger: the RAZR2 V8 boasts a durable stainless steel frame and chemically hardened glass displays. | The RAZR2 V8 operates on GSM 850/900/1800/1900 networks and can handle high-speed data connectivity via T-Mobile's EDGE network (which stands for "Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution"). This high-speed, mobile data and Internet access technology is fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services (with average data speeds between 75-135Kbps), including video and music clips, full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go. Download cool new games, HiFi Ringers (real songs by today's hottest artists), MegaTones (instrumental versions of songs), and wallpapers quickly, as well as stay connected via the Web, instant messaging, and email. This phone also includes compatibility with T-Mobile's myFaves service, which allows you to call up to five of your most common contacts--on any network, even landlines--without using any of your minutes. Learn more about myFaves from T-Mobile. Phone Features Designed to be even sharper than before, the RAZR2 V8 shaves two millimeters from the original MOTORAZR. Its one-piece housing has no parting lines (meaning fewer chances of break points) and the cast aluminum hinge underwent more than 100,000 lab tests to ensure durability. Even the exterior camera lens is stronger, as it is made with chemically hardened glass. Despite its slimmer profile, the RAZR2 V8 offers enhanced dual screens that make the phone seem larger. The 2.2-inch internal screen offers twice the resolution of the original MOTORAZR while the 2-inch external screen is great for checking caller photo ID, easily reading incoming text messages, and controlling music playback through onscreen controls. Other Motorola-engineered enhancements include: - Upgraded Interface: With the redesigned, more intelligent interface, you'll be able to search for contacts faster and avoid duplicate entries for the same person while allowing contacts to have multiple numbers. The customizable main menu means you're never more than 2 to 3 clicks away from your favorite applications. And text messaging is easier, with the V8 recognizing what type of message you are sending.
- CrystalTalk Technology: This innovative feature automatically accounts for background noise during a call and adjusts the audio quality based on ambient noise conditions to provide the optimal conversational experience. CrystalTalk also reduces the volume of the background noise picked up by the microphone during a call, making it possible to be more easily heard over the phone while in a noisy environment.
- Talk to Me: Originally designed to address the needs of those with vision impairment, the RAZR2 V8 is able to read the phone's interactive menus, contacts, messages and more aloud--adding convenience to your on-the-go lifestyle. SMS messages on the phone can be read and replied to with pre-programmed text messages without ever having to open up the flip.
- Haptics: Motorola has incorporated breakthrough haptics technology--an interface that creates tactile feedback--that provides vibrating feedback in response to your finger taps. When combined with the virtual music keys, the haptics technology helps you to effortlessly control music playback.
The 2-megapixel camera includes an 8x digital zoom and it can automatically snap up to eight new pictures--letting you choose the best image from a complete series of pictures. You can even print photos wirelessly to a Bluetooth-compatible printer with just a few menu selections. It provides four resolution choices (from 320 x 240 to 1600 x 1200 pixels) and also features a self-timer, free memory space indicator, color effects, night mode for low-light shots, and five shutter sounds (with a silent mode). The RAZR2 V8 is also an impressive video camcorder, providing up to QCIF resolution (176 x 144 pixels). It also gives you the option of choosing the video format, which offers different frame rates--25 fps for MPEG and H263 and 15 fps for WMV and Real. You can record video for as long as you have available space on your internal memory.
Control music playback with the virtual digital audio player buttons on the V8's external screen, which includes tactile feedback. | With its internal 512 MB of storage (though no MicroSD expansion), the RAZR2 V8 can store up to 100 of your favorite songs. It offers compatibility with Microsoft Windows Media Player 11, enabling easy synchronization and transfer between phone and PC. You'll be able to modify music playback with the flip closed thanks to the virtual contextual music controls that appear on the external screen. And you can keep playing music even while surfing the web, sending text messages, or even using the camera. This phone provides Bluetooth version 2.0 wireless connectivity with EDR (enhanced data rate), and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, and audio/video remote control. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. You can connect your laptop (either via Bluetooth or wired USB) and enjoy dial-up networking--surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server. The RAZR2 V8 features a full HTML browser (Opera 8.5) that takes advantage of high-speed wireless data connections for faster, bigger and richer web surfing experience. Built-in e-mail functionality (POP/IMAP/SMTP) combined with MobileSync software provides easy, PC-like access to both personal and corporate e-mail accounts and calendars. Other features include: - Instant messaging via AOL, Yahoo!, MSN, and ICQ
- Up to 1000 contact entries, each with up to six numbers and two email addresses
- Bluetooth wireless connectivity (version 2.0 with Enhanced Data Rate) with profiles for communication headsets, handsfree, stereo music streaming, audio/video remote control, printing, dial-up networking, and file transfer
- USB 2.0 wired connectivity, with mass storage capability
- Polyphonic and MP3 ringtones
- Voice command and dialing, as well as ability to record voice memos
- PIM functions including calendar, calculator, alarm clock, and world clock
Vital Statistics The RAZR2 V8 weighs 3.8 ounces and measures 4.1 x 2.1 x 0.5 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 8 hours of talk time, and up to 11 days of digital standby time. It runs on the 850/900/1800/1900 GSM/GPRS/EDGE frequencies.

Why is t-mobile removing this phone from lineup? September 23, 2008 I have had nothing but trouble with this phone. Battery life is next to nil - though this was explained away by the t-mobile reps as a problem with my reception. Apparently when you can't get reception, your phone is constantly searching for service, thus, running the battery down. When I got the phone, it lasted 3-4 days without needing to be charged, and now it lasts less than a day on a full charge. Also, the keyboard is buggy - there is a delay of 5-10 seconds whenever I try to text. I called customer service and based on my issues and the fact that this phone is still under warranty, I was given the option for an exchange. They offered an even exchange, or I could take the Samsung t819. I was told that Tmobile will not be offering this model Razr anymore, so the phone they have that is most like the Razr is the t819. Now I'm wondering why they are removing this motorola phone from their lineup. Ideas anyone?
High price for little memory September 1, 2008 $400 for unexpandable 512 MB of internal flash memory and no option of expanding it with a microSD? Ch-ching$$$
T-mobile won't sell these to current customers upgrading to their current phone. Thanks, T-Mobile. Way to keep the customers loyal.
Luxury Phone May 31, 2008 This phone is pure luxury. The phone is mostly made out of glass and metal. The phone has 2 huge High Defintion screens. The phone has one of the best MP3 players you could find on a cell phone, comparable to ipods.
The battery is great it last around 4 to 5 hours. Camera quality is great, close to the quality of a disposable camera.
Great Phone! Exceeds expectations! March 22, 2008 This is bigger than the original razr but bigger is definitely better. I am usually not fond of battery life of motorola due to previous experience but this battery life is the best of the last 4 motorola purchases. You can download music, it reads your text messages to you if you choose and the internet is really fast and downloads full pages. No regrets.
pretty good phone!!! but T-Mobile dropped the ball February 15, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
To start with let me say that this phone is gorgeous!! so if you like fashionable phones, this is the one for you. The this is that Because it took T-mobile so long to start selling this phone, I would go into Verizon and play around with the V9 version that they sell. I don't know about other people, but I for one thought that the only difference in between the V8 and V9 was that the V8 didn't have a slot for a memory card. Well Now that I bought it, I now know that thats not all it doesn't have. I do not understand why T-mobile has stripped this phone down to the bare essentials I mean what would it have taken for them to allow more operating control from the closed position on the phone just like the V9 versions. Don't get me wrong, I really like the phone and I'm not one of those guys that really cares about how fast the OS is and I didn't buy this phone to play a lot of music on so that being said I still like the V9 better I just don't like the color of it. I would have given this phone a perfect 5 if T-mobile hadn't drop the ball and stripped it I mean let's face it the phones not cheap!! My advice is if you are not a T-mobile customer... Stay that way and buy the other versions of this phone.
