Welcome to the 222nd Army battalion, B-company. This is where the Army rakes together all the insubordinates, hellraisers and troublemakers that won?t fit in any other unit. When the Rangers and Deltas are too expensive to waste, these guys are the first ones in.
They?re called ?Bad Company?; a mismatched bunch of rejects selected to serve their country as cannon fodder. This isn?t the kind of outfit a lot of soldiers would join voluntarily. Getting transferred to ?the B? is a punishment and a way for the generals to put all their rotten eggs in one basket.

 A Lot of Potential, But Ultimate Failure December 3, 2008
I've read a lot of reviews here at Amazon about Battlefield: Bad Company and I'm surprised at how many positive reviews this game has.
I purchased BFBC in July, 2008 after playing the excellent demo on the Playstation Network. I've had over 6 months to play the game and in that time serious issues have not been addressed by the developer - DICE Studios or Electronic Arts, the publisher of the game.
The Battlefield series has always been first and foremost an online shooter. BFBC is different in 2 ways. First, it adds a single player campaign and second it features destructible environments. The single player campaign is adequate though somewhat of a distraction from the "meat" of the game which is clearly the online portion.
The single player campaign puts you in the boots of a U.S. Army soldier assigned to the proverbial "B-squad". Your squad consists of delinquents, has-beens and all-around rejects from the rest of the Army. You'll have various objectives to accomplish in the war-zone you're in before being allowed to go home. The story although not compelling is entertaining and the AI characters are actually funny in parts. All in all I used the single player campaign as practice before jumping online.
And online is where the game has major problems. First and foremost a game like BFBC is all about squad communication and tactics. Inexplicably the game features very, very poor voice chat support. You are limited to only speaking with members of your immediate squad (4 players total). You have no way of communicating with other members of different squads, even on the same team. Coordinating attacks or defense is severely limited because of it. Also, even through various game updates the voice chat is hopelessly broken. Some rounds you might actually get lucky and have the voice chat work only to discover it won't in the next.
As if that weren't bad enough BFBC does not run stably or reliably online. Lag is so severe that the game sporadically freezes for 2-5 seconds at a time. Try playing a shooter with lag this severe and you'll quickly realize that it's a futile effort.
Other problems including a complete lack of online game modes also hamper the game. Initially BFBC only included one game mode - Gold Rush. It's essentially a spin on traditional sabotage games. You are either a 'defender' or 'attacker' and must either destroy or defend crates of gold. A few months after release, BFBC was updated with a new game mode called 'Conquest'. In Conquest mode, the aim is to reduce the opposing team's tickets to zero. Killing an enemy soldier depletes one ticket per kill, while capturing control points on the map causes enemy tickets to count down.
Beyond those problems I am also disappointed in the level variety in BFBC. Some levels truly shine and feature enough variety in vehicles and terrain to cater to all types of combat. Other levels are claustrophobic, poorly planned, feature no vehicles and are layered in annoying fog. The feeling I get playing the latter is that the developer quickly padded the game with extra maps sacrificing quality for quantity.
I should point out that I tried resolving the various lag and voice-chat issues through EA's technical support. Unfortunately for me it seems that it's the game itself that is at fault as no one from EA was able to offer any viable solution. I'll also add that I use a broadband 6mb/sec. connection from Comcast. I play several other games online with no problems on the same PS3. It seems like the issues are entirely contained within the game itself.
Overall I am of course disappointed with the game. What should have been the blockbuster title of the summer fizzled out as many players experiencing the same problems I described above have left for better games. The support from EA and DICE to BFBC has been almost non-existent leaving many gamers with an almost unplayable game. I strongly encourage anyone to rent this game before purchasing it!

This game is a blast. The graphics are very cool. There are many different weapons that you can use and you can unlock more and more weapons as play and move up through the ranking system. There are guns, rocket launchers, turrets, grenade launchers, air strikes and much much more. Plus there are many different vehicles to use including trucks, tanks, personell carriers, choppers, boats, artillery, etc. One thing that makes this game incredible is your ability to destroy anything in the environment. You can blow holes in walls, roofs and shoot out windows to give a few examples. As an added bonus, the first time that you log in it will download extra maps for free that weren't included with the game originally. You can play this game offline which is very fun or you can play online with up to 24 players in the same match. You can play with your friends online and chat with them on your headset. They recently dropped the price on this game and I consider this awesome value.
Under Appreciated Game November 23, 2008
I consider myself a casual gamer growing up playing Super Nes, Attari, and Genesis. And never thought I would be writing a game review. But I have felt compeled after playing Battlefield Bad Company for PS3 for the past three months. Bad Company is the most fun and addicting game I can remember. The multiplayer is unbelievable and the new 1.20 upgrade has really perfected the games graphics and gameplay. Being able to blow up and change your enviroment is really cool.
The game is underated. I have owned Call of Duty 4 and Far Cry 2, these games haven't come close and I have since sold them and have gone back to playing Battlefield Bad Company. I don't consider COD4 the game of the year.
I can't wait for the PS3 sequel. The best thing I can say is if you are looking to buy a holiday gift or a birthday gift this game would be a great for a gamer.
Enjoyable November 18, 2008
I have been gaming for almost 2 years now and I consider myself a casual gamer. I was never an FPS fan until this showed up. This game is the first FPS that I actually finished (although on easy). I thoroughly enjoyed this game throughout. The story and characters are very funny. Haggard is hilarious. Graphics are amazing. But the best part is the destroyability of the surroundings. Depending on what gun/weapon you are using... you can take down small vehicles, trees, buildings, water tanks... almost everything you see in this game. You can even use your knife to tear apart wired and wooden fences. It does not sound much fun until you actually do it. In every level, after I was done shooting all the enemies, I'd roam around the village and blow the $hit off of every structure in sight.
Here are few things I liked:
- Environment destroyability
- Weapons (it has a huge number guns/rifles available, all based on real weapons... I never realized that there were that many)
- Sound (each gun makes a distinct sound, explosions sound very loud and real, vehicle sounds are also very realistic)
- Graphics (one of the best)
- Story, voice acting, dialogues
- Online gameplay (although I did not play much to comment about it, having this option is never bad)
I do not have any complaints from this game. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I totally recommend this game to anyone. It is worth the money.
Better than COD4, World at War, and MGS4 for Multiplayer... November 14, 2008

Even to this day, I play the PC version of BF2. It is still very fun, and I see a lot of folks on...
Sooo...It was nice to see BF4 (Bad Company) come out; I had to give it a buy. I am glad I did. The single player is just blah. Think of it as a tutorial; a place where you get used to your tools of the trade, so to speak.
But multiplayer? Ahh, yes, very nice. You see, in my view, COD4 is a toy. It is an arcade style game, with all of that up close, intense, in-your-face, run-and-gun action. And, MGS4? Come on...Why all the hype? Crappy single player mode, it was so linear, so confining...And its multiplayer? Lame. You feel like an old man running around! Massively over-hyped; It should be illegal, I tell ya!
But, BF4's MP? Class-based, land/air/sea vehicles, nearly completely destructable environments, the most beautiful sounding, wide dynamic, realistic sounds I have ever heard in a game, graphics are excellent, now has capture the flag, 24 player maps, and these maps are expansive...It's just good times for all. Really, really, really fun multiplayer!
Sometimes I just love chillin' out in the game somewhere a little off from the action, listening to the fantastic war sounds...Absolutely beautiful to the ears!

November 12, 2008 Update: I have been playing COD: World at War, and Bad Company is so much better. COD4 and WoW have such cheap graphics and sound. Why do so many folks play COD games? Honestly folks...Put in a COD game, even the latest one, then pop in Bad Company. See the huge difference in sound, graphics, expansive maps? BC wins hands down!
BTW, I made these same comments for the Gold Edition, as I have that one. Doesn't matter, I believe this game deserves much more traffic...
