Wow! A product that actually does what it says! December 3, 2008 I have to admit - I was skeptical. My wife read about the Furminator online and showed me some of the reviews. Typically, what you read and what you get are two different things. Obviously, being the male, I knew I would lose any argument about getting it once she decided that it was the greatest thing invented. Between you and I - she was right. Well, not 'greatest' thing ever, but certainly the best dog product we have ever purchased. The furmintator is easy to use and will amaze you with the amount of hair it will remove in one stroke. We have 2 Labs and both seem to enjoy getting brushed. It is amazing when we are done - the pile of hair is nearly as big as they are (a slight exaggeration - but still a lot of hair). This is easy to use and does exactly what it says. If you have walking hair balls like we do - this is a must purchase.
Excellent product December 3, 2008 This is a great product....good for shedding dogs and cats. Truly cuts down on the shedding problem. Couldn't do without it now.
Does a good job on long hair! December 3, 2008 Our golden retriever mix sheds a lot, and this does a pretty good job removing large amounts of hair!
Great Product December 2, 2008 Worth the money. I have a border collie/whippet dog that has short hair and it works great.
No better tool for thick undercoats! December 2, 2008 The Furminator was recommended to us by our German Shepherd rescue group, before we even adopted a dog! When we first met our German Shepherd, Jack, his upkeep had clearly been neglected for some time. His nails were long and ragged, his ears filthy, and his coat dull with clumps of undercoat falling out. He made a trip to the groomer the day that we adopted him, and we bought our Furminator a few days later. He has never had to go to the groomer again since that day, thanks to weekly brushings with the Furminator.
Jack also has a slicker brush and a comb, but I am not even sure where those tools are right now. The Furminator is the only tool that I need to keep Jack's coat under control. Every week I use the Furminator, and manage to remove an entire grocery bag of fur. Our carpets and floors still end up fur-covered, but you can definitely see the difference on weeks where Jack doesn't get his "Furmination". In fact, I can usually get in 3-4 vacuums without emptying the canister, whereas without the Furminator, I have to empty the vacuum canister after each vacuuming.
However, for the tool to work, you do need to have a dog with an undercoat. The tool barely touches the outer coat, and so you will see no benefit at all if you have a single-coated dog. Additionally, we found the tool very difficult to use on my parents' long-haired sheltie. The Furminator just passes over any fur that is tangled or matted, and so the sheltie had to be brushed and combed before the Furminator could be used. In my parents' case, it's not worth the extra time to Furminate, after spending over an hour brushing the dog to fully remove all the tangles!
Jack loves being brushed with the Furminator. The "blade" doesn't seem to hurt him or pull his fur at all. He will lay still for the 20-30 minutes that it takes to brush him, with no complaint at all.
If you have a dog with short to medium length fur and a thick undercoat, the Furminator will be your new favorite pet tool!
