Amazon.com This three-girl unit was conceived by the Latin Rascals (producers and, later, recording artists in their own right) as a Latina update of the Supremes. The biggest hits on this compilation prove that they are worthy of such great company, though MTV's resistance to freestyle prevented anyone here from becoming a star on the order of Diana Ross. "Show Me" is their most enduring single--with it's yearning lyrics and hyper beats, it's nearly a textbook example of freestyle in its heyday. The Girls break the frenetic mood with a token ballad, a cover of Rose Royce's "Wishing on a Star." --John Sanchez

My Heart Skips A Beat Back To The 80's! April 12, 2008 Great CD with lots of favorites. These songs take me back to my high school days. I have some of these songs in extended form on old tapes and their getting worn out. I do agree with one recent review that the song "Wishing On A Star" should have been the original. They could have added that remix as a bonus track. My favorite tracks are: "Show Me", "Because Of You", "Promise Me", "We Can't Go Wrong", "Inside Outside", & "My Heart Skips A Beat". If your into 80's/dance music, you can't beat this collection. I also suggest getting Expose Greatest Hits.
Great dance music February 1, 2008 They had really great dance music in the 1980s. Some really great songs I like you should sample are "Show Me", "Because of You", "Inside Outside", and "My Heart Skips a Beat". This is worth owning if you love 80s dance.
Dancin' Divaz December 23, 2007 I grew up listening to the Cover Girls in the 80's. It was my dance music when I was a teenager. They were the "Destiny's Child" of the 80's, only The Cover Girls were the orignators, Beyonce should kiss the ground they walk on. The greatest hits has all the good songs on it, but for some reason, they left off one of The Cover girls best songs "Spring Love". This is a good dance music collection, it's not "freestyle" like some reviewers keep refering too. The new generation thinks they can coin terms and label old school music whatever they want. This type of music was never called "freestyle", there is no such music and it's not up to people who weren't even born when this music came out, to label it that. The Cover Girls are "dance music", ever hear of DANCE music?

First off, i was very proud to learn that The Cover Girls were Latina. Back in the 80's it wasn't too widely known when a performer was Latino. It was thought to be a better way of "marketing"...ok so this CD is Full of the Rhythum of freestyle..."Latino Old School"...this is our music!!!These girls are not only sexy but they're have shown to be very talented with ability to go from the dancefloor to the heart. They can serve up heaters for the freestyle dancefloor like "because of you", "inside, outside", "my heart skips a beat", and their signature song "Show Me"..."We can't go wrong" is beautiful. I also love the slow tune "Thank You"... One BIG dissapointment is that in order to get the original SLOW version of "Wishing on a star", you have to buy another CD...i love the slow version...also, track 11 is the weakest on this CD...a remake of Tina Marie's "I need you're lovin'...sorry but Tina is in a class hard to Get into...looking past this the only other thing is not to expect this CD to be 12" versions...they're all album versions, so DJ's who have graduated to CD's from VINYL...U'll have to go elsewhere for extended play versions but never the less these ladies are talented...they could easily tour with the other girl groups form the generation that was and is a STRONG voice from and for the Latino community...Music has NO COLOR but when u see you're own performing, u can't help but to be proud!!!...thank u girls
The Second Greatest Group Of Free-style! February 13, 2007 In the late 80's, free-style ruled the dancefloors especially in places like Miami and New York and "The Cover Girls" were one of the movements biggest stars. Even though MTV did not embrace them, nor give them exposure, they managed five top 40 hits between 87-92 and several other minor hits and club favorites.
The songs that truly capture the free-style movement are "Show Me", "Inside Outside", and "Because of You" which are three of their most enduring songs. However, it was their two big ballads that became their biggest hits and those are "We Can't Go Wrong" and "Wishing On a Star."
Billboard Hot 100 chart history: 1. Spring Love #98 (1987) 2. Show Me #44 (1987) 3. Because of You #27 (1988) 4. Promise Me #40 (1988) 5. Inside Outside #55 (1988) 6. My Heart Skips A Beat #39 (1989) 7. We Can't Go Wrong #8 (1989) 8. All That Glitters Isn't Gold #49 (1990) 9. Funk Boutique #55 (1991) 10. Wishing On a Star #9 (1992) 11. Thank You #75 (1992)
So why 4 stars? Thsi collection is missing two of their chart hits..."Spring Love" and "All That Glitters Isn't Gold." Although a nice, disposable pop group, these girls were slightly overshadowed by the more successful and slightly more mainstream "Expose" and were effected by an ever changing line-up..which seems to be a common problem among girl groups since Expose had the same problem in the early 90's...as did 2day's modern equivilent "Destiny's Child." Anyways, recommended for fans of freestyle, and dance music in general.
