| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com These early Denny creations cover his more wildly "exotic" career phase. The first album, presented in its original "Spectra-Sonic" mono, includes the hit title track in its entire eerie swamp-varmint splendor. Other standouts are the dreamy xylophone on "Lotus Land" and the absolutely wacky "Love Dance," which sounds more like an ornithologist's orgy. The second album, in stereo, gets more intricate and oddly romantic. The best is the opener, "Shoshu Night Serenade," with its ghostly textures and the persistent ringing of bells that suggest the carriage of a typewriter. The Denny arrangement of "Ebb Tide" is also a stunner. This double volume gives listeners a clear picture of how Denny was interested less in an "authentic" Hawaii and more intrigued by an imaginary and often surreal geography. --Joseph Lanza

Retro to the max August 17, 2008 I was on Catalina island with my friends. Walked into a store and they were playing music like Denny's: Retro, island/paradise-type with animal sounds, etc. I asked if they had heard of Martin Denny and they said 'no'. So I bought 2 of these, one for me and the other for them. They loved it. If you enjoy this type of music, lush and melodic, then you will probably enjoy this. It is NOT for all listeners.
exotic June 16, 2008 We have loved this since the 50's. It is timeless and a trip to Hawaii renewed our love.
Martin Denny's music lives on!!!! May 29, 2008 My uncle Harvey Ragsdale, was Martin Denny's bass player for years, and is featured on many of Denny's albums. My family is very proud of that! Martin Denny was a great friend to my uncle, as well as a wonderful band leader and human being. Though Martin Denny and my uncle have passed on, it's great to know this music will live on and that as it had brought pleasure to many back in the day, it continues to bring that same pleasure to many fans of exotica kon tiki culture today and will continue in the future!!! I give every one of their albums as always, 5 stars!!!! Love their music!!
Martin Denny April 7, 2008 Great collection of songs from a master. I love this guy. Good mood music. Add it to your collection.

This is exactly what my Father wanted and this one was both Volume 1 and Volume 2 combined in one disc.
