Editorial Reviews:

Album Description
Curtis Salgado, the man credited by John Belushi as the inspiration for The Blues Brothers, is one of the finest soul/blues singers on the scene today, having been vocalist/harp player with Robert Cray, Room Full Of Blues and Santana. He's recorded a string of outstanding solo albums with both originals and tasty cover material ranging from blues to soul to rock. This new album, recorded by The Phantom Blues Band(known for backing Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal and a host of others) maybe his best yet as it delivers a powerful set of original songs plus sublime covers such as his beautifully-sung version of Al Green's "Let's Get Married."

5 out of 5 stars Curtis is a GIFT   November 23, 2008
Curtis Salgado is a gift. He speaks to all of us and he cares about all of us. "Take care of each other.", he says at the end of his performances. That is part of his charm. What's also true is that his passion for music and his powerful, heartfelt vocals seem to rise from deep inside his soul and pour out over his audience. You can FEEL it, not just hear it. His voice gets deep inside of you. That's a true blues musician. But Curtis is not just a blues musician. Curtis is a unique and gifted individual who been through so much and has an immense amount of love and wisdom to share and to give. Be sure to check him out, especially if you can see a live show. I am sure that you will not be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Blues album of the year   November 21, 2008
Sometimes, its heartache, other times, its your own life that can bring out the pure raw ,reach down into my gut and bare my soul to the world emotions into a recording. Perhaps, this recording will never get its just due, but I'm here to tell you that Curtis Salgado has produced the FINEST blues album of 2008 with " Clean Getaway". A regular on our playlist on Breakfest with the Blues on 91.9 KRVM, the closer you get to this, the better it sounds. We have gone round and round on what could be the "big hit" of the disc and actually half of the material or more could be anyones number 1. Curtis lays it out with " My Confessions" speaking directly to those who know about his recent health bouts. The covers of "Who's Lovin You" and Al Greens "Lets Get Married", Claptons "Bottle Of Red Wine" Curtis and the band just nail it. Listen closely and hear the plea out of his voice. This coming from a blues cat who has chewed through a couple of his 9 lives and lives to tell it. "20 Years of BB King", "Whats Up With That", title track, "Clean Getaway",this is an absolute must for any collector of blues / rhythem and blues. Catch Curtis when he comes to town...its Blues church 101. Congradulations Curtis, you deserved it !!!

2 out of 5 stars Not so good   September 28, 2008
This is the second Curtis Salgado disc I have bought because folks that have seen him just raved about how good he is. He must be one of those love um or hate um type artists. After repeated listens no bright spots appeared anywhere on this CD to catch my interest. My advice, listen first then buy if he hits a cord with you.

5 out of 5 stars Salgado is Back   September 7, 2008
After the horrifying experience of needing a liver transplant to save his life, Curtis Salgado is back with one of the best recordings of his career. From his days in the Robert Cray Band, Salgado has been one of the country's great R&B singers. He's never made the impact on the national consciousness that Cray did, and he had his Blues Brothers act stolen by John Belushi, but he never stopped making dynamic recordings and doing great shows. If you get a chance to see him live, don't miss it. And this CD is an excellent example of what does and continues to do. Listen to the samples. They rock. Curtis rocks. This CD rocks.

5 out of 5 stars Another Curtis Lover!   August 20, 2008
We just had the pleasure to see Curtis 3 days ago (my 9th time, my husbands 6th time) and we were delighted to see him looking so good and sounding so fabulous! We bought "Clean Getaway" directly from Curtis and he, as usual, autographed it for us, we've been listening to it solid since Saturday. An excellent production, and as Curtis told his audience the other night, there was no sound booth, just honest cuts, no headphones, and very few overdubs. That's why it sounds so honest! Curtis is a legend, and I'm loving that we've been here for so long before everyone else figures him out. I agree with another reviewer, "Who's lovin' you" could easily be a huge hit. "Let's get married" is absolutely awesome too. I told Curtis the other night, "You make the world just alittle bit cooler Curtis!" Thanks for weathering the storm Curtis, we aren't ready to lose you yet!
