Album Description Pierre Lacocque has led Mississippi Heat since its inception in 1991. The harmonica player has always surrounded himself with the cream of the crop of Chicago blues players. Lurrie Bell, who appeared on Heat's 2005 One Eye Open (both CD and DVD versions), is back again for two songs as is lead vocalist Inetta Visor. Guitarist Carl Weathersby plays throughout and sings on Hell and Back. The Chicago Horns and latin percussionist Ruben Alvarez also add some very nice touches to this varied disc. Contains twelve songs, many of which are new original compositions.

AWSOME AS ALWAYS!! July 23, 2008 This band is one of my favorites! Exceptional to watch in person, as well as a must have for all their studio productions. This CD is great in every way.. Inetta Visor is top on my list of singers.. of ANY kind!! You will NOT be dissapointed in this purchase. Pierre Lacocque has gathered great musicians here. and of course his Harp is the best. ENJOY!
Impressive Blues June 12, 2008 "like a stray dog on the highway I was stuck out in the rain" - Great Stuff, great writing and great musicians. It was real treat to stumble across this disc. You don't have to listen to this one more than once to like the nice mix of excellent songs. No two are alike and they are all good. I can't wait to hear more of their work - bet they are great live too.
Original, superbly varied and excellently performed CD April 30, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
HATTIESBURG BLUES is a brand new CD (street date for sales in stores is April 22, 2008!). It is about how a music evolved from its African roots to the Delta of Mississippi and to the North in Chicago and it developed through other routes such as Cuba and South America. Yes, this is a beautiful combination of Chicago Blues (with guest Lurrie Bell) and Latin rhythms (with percussionist extraordinaire Reuben Alvarez). Add the hauntingly beautiful sounds of the harmonica of band leader Pierre Lacocque and the powerful and expressive voice of Inetta Visor and here is finally a CD that is an experience in listening from beginning to end. There is no throwaway song here, everything fits to form a great CD. Listen to the instrumental, CALYPSO IN BLUE and then listen to CHICAGO'S MY HOME; then listen to NATURE'S CRYIN' and you will tour almost without realizing it on the paths that old and powerful African drums took to propagate its elemental vitality and raw emotions. No instrument or voice takes over, it is communal construction as it is meant to be... I am proud to manage this band and I can say what I say because I have nothing to do with the composition, the production or the performance of this CD. Michel Lacocque [...]
