Outstanding Performances of 3 rare 20th century compositions June 24, 2008

Dear Readers,
Martinu's music continues to be a revelation to me. This recent release of his Violin Concerto No 2, with Isabelle Faust as soloist, is outstanding. The Toccata e due Canzoni is also brilliantly played.
(The only problem is that this work is described as being for strings and piano obligato-it is actually written for orchestra-albeit a smaller one than the Concerto-and piano obligato).
There is real depth to this music.
