When Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland started distributing homemade singles around Los Angeles at the beginning of the '90s, their bass-fortified, hard-rolling techno concoctions perked up the ears of industry impresarios and local scenesters alike. Vegas, their affectionately-titled major label debut, refines the formula. Thick with layers of pounding beats and rock dynamics, it takes the typical club fare and beefs it up with a uniquely western slant. The detectable influences range from the power chords of AC/DC to old school hip-hop patterns to the smooth melodies of Stevie Wonder. On blistering tracks like "Trip Like I Do" and "Keep Hope Alive," the Crystal Method confirm that America has become a force of contention in the electronica field. --Aidin Vaziri

5 out of 5 stars Must Have   October 2, 2008
This is by far one of the best electronic music cd ever!!! Every track is well done and they put you on a ride from start to finish. I wish they would do another album with this same intensity! I have bought this cd 7 times cause either I let someone listen to it and the next thing you know its gone or I played it so much it wore out!! Everyone I let listen to it even if they not a electronic fan they still love it and that makes it even appealing because it has such a diversified sound. This is a must have if your any kind of music lover!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars WOW, thats all I can say   June 10, 2008
Im just starting to get into electronic music, but i don't know that many bands or albums that really grab me. This, however, is just absolutely earth shatteringly good. Oh man. I recently got a synth and have realized just how hard it is to make this type of stuff. The programing and sound design on this album is perfect. Every synth tone just shakes you to the core. Best songs are High Roller, Vapor Trail, and Trip like I Do.

5 out of 5 stars Doesn't get old   December 20, 2007
Enough has been said by others. It's merely worth mentioning that I have had this album for years and every time I pull it out again, it's fresh and awesome, engaging and energetic. Great stuff.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Writing Music   December 17, 2007
I listen to a lot of music while I write, and Vegas just gets the words flowing.

5 out of 5 stars C'mon trance snobs - give it a break. It's a MUST HAVE!   October 11, 2007

Like so many others, Vegas was my "gateway" CD into electronica. Granted I've only gotten into it for about 12 years (dabbling in the Shamen and Front 242 originally), but this CD got me listening to electronica as my ONLY genre for many of those years; namely trance, trip hop, break beats, techno, ambient and the like (I'm old - I still like to call it ALL techno, but I keep getting yelled at by the kids). And I've still had to buy this album a couple of times to replace previous ones as it's one of my most heavily played CDs, and I'll soon be picking up the 10 year anniversary version.

So they're not the most technical DJs in the world, that doesn't mean the music itself is bad! IT'S PHENOMENAL! It's got a GREAT beat, sexy vocals and it's extremely likeable in general. I think many techno...er... electronica audiophiles get really defensive when it comes to their precious underground music. They should be glad that pieces of it can be appreciated by the masses.

I never miss TCM when they come to town. They're high energy and love to roam thru the audience before the shows and casually talk with their fans. TCM rocks a$$, especially this CD - it's still their best. If you don't own it, TRY IT! You'll like it!
