5 out of 5 stars Early Donny's best albums   July 5, 2008
Although I've never been a ten year old girl, If I had one--I'd want her to like these albums!! I'm a big fan of the Osmonds music--Young Donny is probably my least favorite, but these are his best IMO. PORTRAIT OF DONNY is really good. As usual, most of the songs are remakes of 50's-early 60s hits. The thing is, Donny's versions were always better than the originals! He is such a good singer, how can anyone who likes pop music not be impressed and charmed by him? He is simply amazing and more talented than any other young performer in history IMO. He's Every mothers son singing his heart out. His parents must have been so proud of their children.
TOO YOUNG is pretty good. I love the title track, it's so heartfelt and well orchestrated. "Why" was a well deserved hit. "Last of the red hot lovers" is a fun song that I never knew. I would like to have heard some original songs, but for a 14 year old in 1972 what can you expect? His brothers career probably suffered because of his teenybopper appeal but at least he made a lot of money from these recordings. They did sell well and earned gold records. Good music is for any age and time. Don't forget to buy these albums on CD for yourself or your kids. These are classic pop tunes from the 20th century.

5 out of 5 stars At the top.   June 30, 2008

'Portrait Of Donny' and 'Too Young' were the most successful UK albums Donny ever had. The former includes his career song 'Puppy Love' along with fun tunes like the highly catchy 'Going Going Gone (To Somebody Else)', 'Big Man' and 'I've Got Plans For You' along with his lovely ultra-smooth take of 'This Guy's In Love With You'. It's a superb album, really and I'm delighted to hear one of my favourite Donny songs, 'Let My People Go' on CD at last. It always sounded rough, being the last track on side one of the LP, but here, like the rest of the album(s), it sounds wonderful.

'Too Young' released a few months later is more of the same but isn't quite as good, IMO. It includes the hits 'Too Young' and 'Why' along with goodies like 'To Run Away', 'Lonely Boy' and 'Pretty Blue Eyes' (I LOVE 'Pretty Blue Eyes'!) but he's a little squeaky on 'Run To Him' and 'Take Good Care Of My Baby' though I'm pleased to say 'The Last Of The Red Hot Lovers' is here without that annoying fade from that 90's comp!

As I've said, both albums sound amazing and a nice touch is that the 3 b&w photos that were given away with the 'Portrait Of Donny' LP are replicated in the CD booklet. Good work, 7ts. Snap these up while you can.

I am just so excited over these double releases of Osmond Brothers, Donny Osmond and Donny and Marie albums.

These are great buys and this cd is no different.

Two fantastic albums in one and the songs in it are the ones that defined young Donny and shot him to super-stardom!

Get this album and prepare yourself for one fabulous ride down memory lane!!!
