Amazon.com essential recording "Well I guess it would be nice, if I could touch your body...." Given George Michael's restroom hi-jinks in early 1998, those words from "Faith" sound pretty funny, but they sounded fresh and exciting blasting out of car radios all over America in 1987. Michael's stunning solo debut (after four years in the lightweight British duo Wham!) sold seven million copies and yielded six Top 10 hits. Some of those were among the decade's best pop, including the hiccuping title track, the heartfelt ballad "Father Figure" and the wicked R&B groove of "I Want Your Sex." Unlike so much 1980s treacle, this disc hold ups surprisingly well--even if Michael hasn't always done so himself. --Michael Ruby

Faith-George Michael July 1, 2008 This is George Michael's most known album in the US. George at his best, every song is fantastic. Had it in a record album format in the 80's, needed to update to the CD format. Love it, love it, love him!!!
This is why George Michael is considered a music genius April 3, 2008 This album was ahead of its time when it was released and considering that only one person could make such diverse and innovative music one necessarily have to conclude that George Michael's talent is a privileged one. I remember like today the first time I heard "I Want Your Sex". The instruments, the beat and the song in its own was completely different from the other music the radios were playing.
still a pretty good record over 20 years later... January 5, 2008 This CD is pretty darn good, and has stood the test of time, at least for me. There are many good songs on this. I heard "Father Figure" on the radio today for the first time in a while, and it still sent chills down my spine. I think that is just a lovely song, and it brought back special memories for me. I also particularly like the last song on the CD, "A Last Request". I can still picture most of the videos George Michael made for songs from this album, the "I want your sex" and "Father Figure" videos stand out most in my mind. I was (obviously) younger and more naive back in the late 80s when this came out, so I thought George Michael really liked girls back then. All that aside, this is still a great album, and I highly recommend it.
Gorgeous George August 2, 2007 Just received "Faith" this week. LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! It has songs on it I loved when it was first released, and some I've forgotten about. I'm very happy. And those of you, who would like a great follow-up album, I recommend "Patience", just got it too! The hype is well deserved. Buy It! Buy it! Buy it!
I guess maybe I should explain why I liked "Patience" so much.
Just about all the songs were about love, love for the people of the world, love in his personal life, love for an uncle who died that he never got to know, and his hometown, you name it.
Track #2, "Amazing" has some infectious hooks, nice dance tune. Shows his happiness for a new love in his life, gives the rest of us hope.
Track #3, "John and Elvis Are Dead" ,extremely sad, stark reminder of personal loss, but enjoyable just the same.
Track #4, "Cars and Trains", shows George's sense of humor, same infectious hook style as Track #2.
Did I mention the excellent vocals? I always thought he had a great voice, but was blown away!!!!!! He is much more than a pretty face.
I understand it took him eight years to put this one out. Wow!!!!
For an artist who wants to be taken seriously, you finally got there George. I'd like to thank him personally for this one. Thanks George.
PS Hope the next album won't take eight. Can't wait.
