It is what we thought is was December 3, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I brought this drive from Amazon after Thanksgiving for $105. I thought this was a good buy opportunity for what this storage drive is supposed to be about, at 105 & 750GB. The operative word is storage. This drive features run parallel with each other 2.0 USB is just about right for a 5200 rpm drive which should translate well to low heat dissipation. I noticed that the vents run around 3 width sides. I believe that is over kill but just the same I keep it on its back so that none of the vents are blocked ( folk buying 7200 RPM or fire wire should keep that in mind..seems some of these higher speed models stop after a few days..Heat? see reviews) Another reviewer complained of the loudness of this drive, for my drive there is an instance of a bit of hard drive noise now and again, but I believe the case acts somewhat as an echo chamber thus amplifying normal hard drive noise through the vents. I also believe partitioning the drive to 2 or 3 partitions would also help diminish noise (can anyone guess why?)...which brings me to my only negative _ where's the partition software...luckily Amazon is offering Partition Magic 8.0 for $33 without rebate. I have moved folders, music, photos, off of my laptop and desktop to free space and I still have 99% free space. Will be adding this to my network for storage and possibly consider running massive programs through the network Let you know what happens when I get Norton Ghost 9.0 and Partition Magic 8.0 Bundle very good value asH
Exceptional value December 1, 2008 I'm a digital artist and this is everything I need to safely archive my work. Look for specials...mine cost $99. It's plug and play simplicity at its best and totally silent. My only comment to WD would be to ask them to also include a Firewire port on it, as the USB 2.0 is sufficient but not blazing fast for data transfers. Other than that...this is an exceptional value.
Easy to install, really handy for all of my "where do I put this file" files. December 1, 2008 Compact, easily installed, priced to beat out the competition. Thanks a bundle. Peter Hemmerling Port Orchard, WA
Western Digital 750 GB is worth it at this price December 1, 2008 The drive installed easily and without any complications on a Vista system. You will need to change the formatting from Fat32 to NTFS for optimum use on a NT or Vista system. The one drawback is that the back up software that comes with it is a trial version. So to use it as a back up drive be prepared to pay for additional software or use the clunky MS version. Other brand drives I've purchased included a full version of backup software. The drive is quiet and is reasonably fast. It's a great deal for the price.
Too soon to tell December 1, 2008 0 out of 5 found this review helpful
Delivery was very prompt. However; since I received it I haven't been home long enough to read the instructions to try it out. I have a smaller one that I carry with my notebook though, & I love it.
