Bad experience with Cobra 38 ST CB November 28, 2008 I found the COBRA 38 WX ST CB radio to be a poor product as a replacement for an old Radio Shack CB. There is a very annoying persistent side tone at all times which appears to be affected by engine speed. This noise is ever present and cannot be silenced with the volume control. Moreover, on my first outing with this CB, the COBRA HG-A1500 magnet mounted antenna fell off my SUV roof at about 40 MPH. This experience tells me that buying electronic equipment by internet is a mistake.
Excellent portable radio November 26, 2008 Excellent portable radio, buy two, these open-field behave according to their specifications, their performance improved with an external antenna. I suggest your purchase without thinking, their cost is justified.
Hand held CB June 12, 2008 I am dissapointed in this product. It doesn't work well inside the car with the standard antenia. I purchased the outside antenia and still have problems receiving and sending.
For its design, it's great May 16, 2008 When I was young, I had a base CB and a regular rooftop mounted antenna for the automobile CB. Now that I'm older and travel extensively sometimes, I decided to get this model for simplicity. I can listen to the chatter while driving or get updated storm info. on the weather channels. Sure, a rooftop mounted antenna will greatly increase your ranges on both the transmissions and receiving ends but now you're talking wires and a greater possibility of theft, too bad about the thieves though. Again, this model is just fine if you just want to listen, but it is not designed to be like a regular mobile unit. I even turn it on occasionally in my apartment to listen to emergency chn. 9 plus the other channels. Having that emergency (9) chn. can be advantageous down the road, even if you have to stop and get out of vehicle. Overall, it's worth the price...
Good product but needs some things. . . May 3, 2008 Overall, a good product, but needs a rechargeable battery pack and needs to be able to pick up and transmit at further distances. This product didn't even transmit or pick up transmission more than a quarter of a mile away.
