 A huge about of data storage in a small box September 7, 2008
This hard drive is a good choice for you if need loads of portable storage space and perfect for putting it in a backpack for travel. It comes preloaded with WDSync/Encryption tools that you don't have to install to use the drive. Works well as a backup repository for your CD/DVD and Acronis partition .iso images. The access times are acceptable for a USB device, and I would definitely buy this product again.

It would be nice if this little drive had an IEEE 1394 Firewire port as well, but it works great. Fairly fast and does not get hot even after hours of operation. Extremely quiet.
The supplied USB cable is a little short but that is easy enough to remedy.
It only has one tasteful USB activity light near the cable plug so it doesn't blind you ever time you plug it in and access data.
It should come with the WD Neoprene case because the gloss finish scratches easily. You can always get the Case Logic case which is a little more protective as well.
I would recommend it to anyone looking for a large capacity ultra portable external hard drive that doesn't light up like a Christmas tree. No extra power cords required and should run fine on most notebook USB ports.

An excellent piece of equipment. Tons of storage space in such a small and simple package. I backed up my whole PC before reformatting with no problems whatsoever. Just plug and play.

It's just irresistible -- a little tiny drive that holds everything and matches my white macbook. I have makeup cases bigger than this drive. I reformatted it for mac and now the windows part of my computer doesn't recognize it but I am going to correct that. I am also going to buy another one because they're so cheap -- backup twice. The cute factor is maybe not big with everyone but it made me pay a little more for a smidge less storage -- 320 gigs (minus some -- why is that?) is still a lot.
