It prints, but sometimes I want to throw it out of a very high window... September 27, 2008 I purchased this printer about a year ago, and have had too many frustrations with it to count. Where it shines is printing online documents on plain paper. It has software (I've never had a software problem with it) to align online documents to print in the printable area more consistently. That is about the only good thing I can say about the printer. My main two complaints are: 1. Unreliable paper feed: If you're printing on seemingly any type of label paper (and I frequently do) the paper will not feed consistently. The labels either print too high or too low, and as an example, I went through 20 sheets of labels to get one to print out correctly. That gets expensive. 2. Printable Area: The printable area on the paper is so small that making any type of three fold brochure, spreadsheet, or even word document will clip the bottom portion off. For spreadsheets and word docs this can be worked around, but you shouldn't have to. For brochures and labels, and a whole lot of other things I have come across there is no work around, you just loose the bottom of your doc. This is especially frustrating because the printer can physically print to then end of the page it you trick it into thinking the paper is larger than it really is. But some idiot at HP wrote the software to tell it to stop at point x. I've had other problems with it, usually not until I need a document to print for quickly because I'm under the clock. This printer can be consistently counted on to fail when you really need it to work. Do yourself a favor and keep looking!
Cannot beat the price. Sometimes. August 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Get it! Soon, you may have a difficulty to get one, however. Generally, after my 3 previous experiences with HP printers, I sort of distrust the HP, but needed to replace our printer No. 4 (yes, I use four printers for various jobs, at the same time.) Specs for D4260 were quite impressive, so I decided to get one and found a good price. It is a surprisingly fast and good machine, so ten days later I ordered another one, for my wife's laptop. Get the D4260 if you can get it for a price, between $39.00-$55.00. For this price, it's an extremely fast and good printer that slightly changed my original distrust in present-day quality and reliability of medium or low priced HP printers. After some four weeks, it works flawlessly, printing emails and/or Internet news items and MS Word documents. For more specialized jobs, I use three Epsons, anyhow. Just install only basic "must-have" software (drivers). The rest on CD is more like a spam that may annoy you sooner or later. Since we have two identical machines now, I can even better utilize those quite expensive print cartridges, too. Chances are that the HP will or has already replaced this model with almost identical model(s), but for a steeper price and with different cartridge types (just to "demonstrate" a difference.)Corporate decision-makers are never happy discovering that they produced, unintentionally, merchandise for a price that is "too-good-to-be-true." But be aware that some unscrupulous dealers out there want you to sell the HP4260 for a price as high as $150.00. My HP D4260 is fast and reliable(so far); one nice machine! Get it!
It works alright most of the time August 18, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This printer works sufficiently most of the time but I'm not as pleased with it as I was with my old HP Deskjet 950.
The first D4260 printer I ordered had to be sent back because it wouldn't work due to some malfunction with the enclosed printer cartridge. This second one I've had for about 3 months and it does an OK job of printing with one particularly annoying exception.
If your paper isn't perfectly flat and inserted just right, it will jam - at least mine does. There is a back door on the printer you can take off to help clear the jam but it did me no good. I had to pull out the paper by force and pick the shredded bits out of the machine afterward. Then after I replaced the back door it kept telling me I had an open door and I finally had to unplug and start over.
The other negative is that I have already had to replace the black printer cartridge. I've probably printed out less than 30 pages in total in the short time I've had it.
On the positive side, it has decent print quality for every day printing tasks and it was relatively inexpensive.
Great everyday printer! August 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This printer is great for everyday home or dorm room use. I have had no problems, and it runs great with my vista system!
Very good price for an excellent printer July 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
For this printer to be so small at a very low price it works GREAT!!! I can even plug in my digital camera and upload pictures to my PC (unexpected bonus). I would recommend this product to anyone. Especially those with an home office.
