OK September 6, 2008 I have had the drive for 2 weeks and it works fine. I'am currently using the USB connection and it could be a lil faster, the disk takes some time to repond, maybe because its big. Other than that, the Hard drive is working fine for now and I recomend you get one.
Almost perfect August 30, 2008 USB and firewire connections work great but I bought this for the ability to do eSATA. The eSATA interface is the only part of the unit I seem to have issues with. There are occasions when my computer will seem to freeze for about 10 sec at a time while it tries to access the unit. Also, initial setup with eSATA caused a few problems but I'm not sure if it was my machine being overclocked or something with the unit. I had to play around with a few of the settings in BIOS until I got the unit to be recognized. All in all, it's a good deal considering the massive amount of storage and the speed.

This drive makes me nervous. The on/off button doesn't seem to have any effect so I have to unplug it to get it to turn off. Flimsy plastic - you get what you pay for. And the included cords are so loose they come out on their own while I'm working! Dangerous!
Outstanding 1TB Hard Drive August 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is an outstanding product, and I'm very glad I bought it. Installation for a Mac is a breeze, and it works just as advertised. Warranty registration is a snap, and the Western Digital pages have good tech info and FAQs. I even like the automatic backup utility they include. It's easy to set up, and works. The first backup takes hours (I seleected files/folders with 200 gigs or so of data), but incremental backups are fairly fast. I prefer to use it when I'm not using other computer resources or applications since it slows them down a bit. It's easy for me to set it to do that backups over the dinner hour or even over night. I recommend this hard drive to anyone, Windows or Mac.
The drive works perfectly, if... July 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have this drive for some time now. As people did, the first days I had problems with the drive not spinning up. It would work perfect one time, then just "sleep" the next. It would not boot with the computer although I hear the spinning sound (that's difficult as the drive's really quiet).
After thinking of returning it the first day, I decided to look at the causes. I have never had good experience with customer services, so I decided to go for it myself.
The problem turned out to be the USB cable given with the drive. The cable works perfectly but the casing just keeps the connector out. So you need to apply preassure to the connector. So I just switched to a USB cable with a longer metal connector end. Drive works perfectly, all the time.
Pitty that Western Digital did not notice such a small error in such a good external HDD.
