Product Description The BDP-S350 models support BonusView (picture-in-picture) featured on some of the Blu-ray Disc theatrical releases. The BDP-S350 models are BD-Live ready featuring an Ethernet port for an easy firmware update and access to Internet-based interactive content features. They also feature an external port for local storage, so users can add optional flash-based memory. The players feature 1080/60p and 24p True Cinema output. They are compatible with most standard DVDs and feature 1080p upscaling through an HDMI connection to capable HDTV sets, improving the picture performance of existing DVD libraries. The BDP-S350 models offer 7.1 channel Dolby TrueHD and Dolby digital plus decoding and bit-stream output, as well as dts-HD high resolution audio and master audio bit-stream output. The players support AVCHD discs encoded with x.v.Color (xvYCC) technology, an international standard for wide color space reproduction. The standard expands the current data range of video by about 1.8 times, allowing the players to output more natural and vivid colors similar to what the human eye can actually see. The players also feature compatibility with an array of video formats, including BD-R/RE (BDMV and BDAV modes), DVD+R/+RW, DVD-R/-RW (video mode), CD, CD-R/RW (CD-DA format), and JPEG on DVD/CD recordable media.

Awesome Blue Ray player October 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Simple to set up and easy to operate, the Sony BDP-S350 is apparently a nice upgrade from the -S300 model (based on reviews only). The player has most, if not all, the newest available features for a thorough home theater experience. Mine is connected to a Sony KDL-40W4100 HDTV and Sony HTS-2300 HD receiver, providing incredible picture and sound quality. I was blown away (literally, Iron Man was my first Blue Ray experience).

Sony BDP-S350 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player Product is everything that was advertised. It's hard to believe the difference from regular DVD. We're totally satisfied.
Ignore most of the bad reviews -- this player is perfectly fine October 5, 2008 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
I am surprised at the negative reviews of the BDP-S350. I purchased mine just last week and have had no problems: quick start times, quiet operation, excellent picture quality.
I've determined that most of the negatives are coming from users who are not properly setting up the player before use. NOTE: The default setting on this unit is "auto," meaning that it will set the picture quality to match the disc. So, if you put in a standard DVD it is going to play it at 480p. Change the picture setting to 1080p for all playback and you are guaranteed automatic upscaling for SD DVDs and 1080p for Blu-Ray discs. And the upscaling on this unit is terrific -- your standard def dics wil look great.
Also, several negatives are coming from people who aren't playing the unit through a 1080p HDTV. Of course the picture isn't going to look better than your SD DVD in that situation. Therefore, don't buy this unit it you don't have a 1080p HDTV -- you are wasting your money. And take the time to properly set up the unit for playback. All will be fine.
I'm giving this player 4 stars because the remote isn't designed as well as it could be. It's not bad, but it's not designed for use in the dark unless you have the layout memorized.
I'm returning mine October 5, 2008 4 out of 19 found this review helpful
I have been considering the BDP-S350 for a couple of months when I noticed a big stack of them at Costco today. I took one home, cabled it up and my first impressions were good. Then I tried upgrading the firmware as recommended by the "Read Me First" flyer in the box. The system saw my network, but refused (for 2 hours) to connect to the server. The webpage says you can upgrade via a homemade CD -- but only if you have a PC. There's no Mac or Linux support. Then I discovered that 4:3 DVDs were being stretched to fill the screen. I confirmed that it wasn't a fault in my new Sony Bravia TV by playing the same DVD in my Pioneer upconverting player and saw the correct 4:3 image. After speaking with Sony technical support for 30 minutes without success, I stumbled on the right option. Change the Video Settings / Screen Format to Fixed Aspect Ratio. This isn't the default setting! Next I discovered it couldn't play some of my homemade DVDs (iMovie + iDVD) which have worked in every other player I've owned. Then I discovered it doesn't remember a DVD has been played before and offer to return to the last played position. The final straw was discovering that skipping to the next chapter takes several seconds. All in all, it's been a very frustrating 4 hours wasted. The unit goes back tomorrow.
This is a great new model October 5, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
The Sony BDP-S350 has been a great product so far. I had a Toshiba HD Player before. The Sony is smaller is size and loads up a disc more quickly. The Sony appears to have an even crisper picture than the Toshiba. Setup was easy and the controls are easy to navigate. The only complaint I have is that I purchased too soon. This model retailed at $399. Sony recently lowered the retail to $299. I paid $334. I have seen it as low as $268 on Amazon.
