CaonScan 8400F crappy January 17, 2008 A recently bought CanoScan 8400F. When scanning in any of the color modes a yellow stripe develops along the right side of the scan. Re-installing the drivers does not work. Canon says repair. The repair costs more than the actual price of the unit, therefore avoid Canon scanners as the PLAGUE
Avoid this scanner December 30, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It stopped working after 15 months of fairly light use (of course the warranty is only 1 year.) It did a decent job while it was working, but apparently it is not well made.
Don't buy a Canon Scanner December 27, 2007 I have had this scanner for 1.5 years (warranty is one year). I did not use it much at all, maybe a hundred scans, but likely less. It spent most of it's time in the off position, turning it on only when needed. Today it died on the first of 6 scans. This is my second Canon scanner that died not long after warranty expired. I will not allow a third opportunity. Maybe you can learn from my mistakes.
I have an old Hewlett Packard 4C scanner that I paid $1000 for 13 years ago. It is built like a tank and it still works like a champ except that HP never provided Windows XP drivers for it. We live in such a disposable world now.
Broke after 13 months December 3, 2007 Worked wonderfully for 13 months. I was pleased with all the functions and software, especially the OCR.
Since I don't like buying a scanner every year I won't buy Canon again.
Excellent scanner, very versatile November 1, 2007 This is an excellent scanner. You can scan straight into jpg, adobe acrobat, img files and much more. I scanned my whole picture collection as well. It is relatively fast but definitely not for commercial use. For a personal scanner it does everything well.
