2 years of service December 30, 2006 Got this hard drive to install Win98 on and play old games. Super fast and reliable, although it may have issues if you use it with a removable HDD tray as i do. Overall it does what i need it to do and loads my games within a few seconds.
*Update* Ditched the HDD tray as it was causing too many issues. Now i have to manually swap HDs within the tower, but i'm ok with that. The drive still works great, and that is what counts.
Excellent Hard Drive! A little noisy, but a great HDD! February 15, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have a Compaq system that I have been rebuilding ever since I purchased it. I keep on taking parts and components out and putting new ones in. The only thing that I have not added on to is my HDD. When I purchased my system, it came equipped with an 80GB HDD and I have always been meaning to insert a second "storage" HDD onto my computer. I felt, just recently, that time was here. I purchased my Maxtor 60GB HDD and I must say that it is quite a lifesaver for some computers that are crunched with a little bit too much stuff. If you need to free up some space on your primary HDD, I really suggest buying this one...if you have another bay on your computer, that is! Most people now these days say to purchase hard drives that hold up to 250GB to 500GB of space, but if all you need is just a little bit of storage, I really, highly suggest this one for starters.
Installation Guide is Confusing December 13, 2004 While using Maxtor's drive in my computer since 2/2002, I cannot say anything negative about Maxtor product. I bought this 60GB drive to upgrade that OEM (DELL) installed drive. The first impression and observation: the new drive is much quieter than the old one; the core made from plastic vs. from aluminum, in the old one.
However, I found the installation steps, in the supplied Installation Guide, being confusing and, in the situation similar to mine, unfinished, i.e., abruptly ending. If I exactly followed the steps, I would not be able to boot my system and make the computer operational.
Note: I installed the drive as a Replacement Boot Drive.
Good Backup Drive, Low Price October 31, 2004 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This drive is my personal backup drive in case something goes awry. It offered good disk size and speed for backup and video editing. This is also my third Maxtor hard drive. None of my other drives have failed in the past 5 years. The only reason I buy more is for more disk space. My first 8.4 GB Maxtor is still working in one of my old computers. Extra mounting screws are included to adapt the drive to a 5 1/4" bay. I recommend Maxtor over others for price and reliability.
Died after 6 months August 19, 2003 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This drive was MANUFACTURED in Nov 2002 and it's Aug 2003 and it's dead--no recovery, no saving data. Not exactly on the edge of my seat waiting for the ... replacement drive, either.
