you are what you eat July 5, 2008 I really enjoyed this book. After watching Gillian's tv show, I couldn't wait to get her books and start being what I eat. Her books are very helpful in determining how to correctly address different issues. One issue it helped me with was about my tongue. I had questioned a doctor about it and she simply said "that is the way you are." So to me it just confirmed that you should get an 2nd opinon when possible. So to me if you really want to learn what you are, this is a great book to have.
Love this book..... I've bought almost 10 of them now!! June 28, 2008 I've had to give friends and family my own copy so I've had to reorder several times! Very informative and easy to read!!
I really wanted to give this book 5 stars June 28, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
There really is very good advice in this book. Things like reduce your meat intake, eat real foods instead of processed foods, and how to manage various health problems. There are also problems as well, I'm not sure where some of this science comes from. Also she writes she is a Dr, not an M.D. and according to her wiki, she doesn't even have a Ph.D from an accredited institution. I think a better way to write her name is Gillian McKeith Ph.D., its much less misleading.

I also have some issues with some of her guidelines being way too strict. No one on this planet can do everything she lists that you need to do, unless you are a machine. Personally, I eat the same breakfast most days of the week, I'm not going to avoid it for four days until I can eat it again. Also I just don't have the time or money to cook from scratch and eat organic. I know this is a criticism of many of these types of holistic books, but it does need to be addressed.
I've read several of these types of books and this one is very friendly in its layout with not too much technical information. It's a good starting point in your journey to wellness, but before you beginning believing that she has the answer to everything, verify the information in the book with either other books or your doctor. I think most people can get a lot out of this book, because I think most people think they eat healthy, but they really don't. I know I was in that camp.
she knows what she's talking about June 5, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a simple book anyone can use, which goes into all kinds of ailments and benefits of different foods. Also, she warns against processed foods, etc, and encourages readers to eat more raw foods, but not staying entirely away from cooked foods. There is also some info on basic herbs, and the index makes for easy referencing. All the pages are bright and colorful, with different pictures and fonts, and makes for an entertaining read that anyone can understand and apply to their life. It is well organized and easy to flip through.
Although this book doesn't go into extensive detail, most of the important info is in here. This author's knowledge in nutrition is sensible, and for anyone interested in learning how to eat healthy, I would say this is a good book to keep around. Would definitely recommend.
