Product Description
A perfectly gift-able, perfectly cynical, slipcased omnibus of George Carlin?s trademark irreverence -- including bonus never-before-published material

For four decades, George Carlin has been one of America?s favorite comics, known as much for his willingness to take on taboo subjects as for his absurdist wordplay. As an author, he has proved equally popular: With combined sales of more than two million copies, Carlin?s three books of razor-sharp and hilarious observations have topped bestseller lists nationwide. Now, just in time for the holidays, Hyperion proudly collects all three volumes -- When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?, Napalm and Silly Putty, and Brain Droppings -? into one hilarious omnibus, a slipcased edition that also includes new material.

5 out of 5 stars A keepsake   August 31, 2008
This is some of George Carlin's last works before his death this year. It has a collection of all of Carlin's random thoughts and his humor. Even though I will miss him and his humor I have this wonderful book to read and re-read again

5 out of 5 stars Classic "sympathetic contempt" from a legend   June 23, 2008

"I am a personal optimist but a skeptic about all else," Carlin writes. "What may sound like anger is really nothing more than sympathetic contempt. I view my species with a combination of wonder and pity, and I root for its destruction. And please don't confuse my point of view with cynicism; the real cynics are the ones who tell you everything's gonna be all right."

In my humble opinion, George Carlin was the greatest comedian of all time. He was smart, brave, truthful, and--most importantly--funny.

This is a fine compilation of his three outstanding books. Buy, think and laugh.

I would say, "rest in peace, George." But he would think that is so trite, meaningless and lame, so I won't.

--Guy P. Harrison, author of 50 Reasons People Give for Believing in a God

4 out of 5 stars Very funny book! A compilation of three.   June 9, 2008
This book is a compilation of three of George Carlin's most recent books. While it is not bound that well and I suspect will come apart with a bit of use, it is a great deal if you like his sardonic humor. Great little excerpts - like to pick up and read during commercials while your favorte show is on. If you like him and his unique humor, you will love the book!

2 out of 5 stars Not my cup of tea   February 11, 2008

I enjoyed George a lot better in his earlier days. Remember he always dressed in a suit? I think he is far too witty to resort to slapstick & offensiveness just for shock value. I felt he was just pushing out the material to fill the pages. He's too smart for that.

4 out of 5 stars People wonder how reading can cause so many laughs...   February 7, 2008
The material gets 5 stars, the book only 4 because a few times I found material repeated. it's not the same things and George adds more to the rant each time, but this could have been a better book if it was organized into one large book instead of 3.5 separate books in the same binding.

about the binding, it's weak. If you take your books with you and read on the go, there are too many pages in the paperback to hold it all together for long. I've had my copy less than a year and a few pages are falling out, but I am rougher then most.

I don't know of you can get the extra material in another books, and it is thrifty to get several books in one container, but this is a wonderful collection of humor in a poorly bound package.
