I have been waiting on MG's story to get to this point. Laurell K. Hamilton did not disappoint. She told a wonderful, dark, sad, teary, sensual, bloody, fairy tale. If I start writing what is in the story, this review will be 5 pages long. So I won't give it away. Suffice to say you won't waste your money on this buy. She wasn't just writing to get a book out there.

I have read some of the reviews on this book and took awhile to think on mine. This book isn't like the others...it's even better. There is more depth to it. It doesn't have as much sex in it but the twists and turns are many!! Merry keeps finding new connections to the men in her life and expanding her powers at the same time. Ms. Hamilton now shows what can happen when you push someone up to a wall and try to hold them there. Merry thought she would get a break from all the killing crap with her pregnancy but now she finds out what it really means to be responsible for someone else's life....in this case, lives, of her children, her men, and her people. She is on the run, yes, but not to hide, but to show those that aren't getting with the program that change is necessary and she will do what it takes to make them see that. While she mourns Frost's loss, she finds the strength she will need to lead her people into a new start. She doesn't want to but the "gods and goddesses" aren't letting her avoid her duties. I can't wait to see what happens next.

I adore, worship and love Laurell K. Hamilton. I discovered her with the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter novels and I was a little nervous about starting the Faerie Series because I loved the Anita Blake books so much. But I had no reason to worry. They are just as good. I loved the new book "Swallowing Darkness" it was fast paced and utterly entertaining. With lots of plot twists and ecxitement. I highly recommend this book and the series. And if you have not read the Anita Blake books you should also.

Well, I sped through this book wanting to know more about what was going on, and I got some of my answers, so I was overall pleased. It wasn't some thorough thought provoking read, but then, it's not -supposed- to be, and that is just fine by me. For what it is, I was satisfied, I enjoyed my read, it was a great romp and it was fun. Sorry to those who don't like sex, but I have no issue with it when it's part of the plot line, and with Laurell K. Hamilton, it is always part of the plot line.
A good fluffy read for late at night when you want some action and romance.

I have been following this series since the beginning, so I eagerly bought this one (Kindle version) as soon as I realized it was out. I read it through, as usual, rarely stopping. I got to the end and just sat there, stunned.
Where did my beloved series go? It absolutely dead-ended in nowhere land. I didn't mind so much (in fact, as a mother, kind of agreed with) Merry suddenly being tired of diplomacy. I appreciated many of the twists and turns. I did not, however, appreciate that *everything* Merry and her men had endured in the last several novels was turned into absolute piffle. What was the point?
I hate writing negative reviews, and it saddens me to have anything negative to say about a series that I have gotten so much pleasure out of. I read somewhere that this may not be the end of the series - I can honestly say that I hope it isn't and this absurd-seeming ending proves to be more than it currently seems. All I have left to say is that I'm thankful I read it on my Kindle...saved me the hard-cover cost.
