Product Description A unique look at the fighters of the UFC, showcasing both their fierce athleticism, and their surprising sensitivity and grace.
Depending upon your perspective, the Ultimate Fighting Championship, aka the UFC, is brash, beautiful, or brutal ? and as in your face as the fighter?s blows. Fighters take down their opponents with an arsenal of moves, using a unique blend of martial arts, including jujitsu, wrestling, judo, and kickboxing.
In Fighter: The Fighters of the UFC, Reed Krakoff offers a unique look at these world-class athletes in a startling collection of black- and-white photographs. Krakoff, the president and executive creative director of Coach, a leading force in the fashion world, is also an accomplished photographer and a huge UFC fan. His pictures, shot with a medium-format Mamiya box camera, depict these fighters as they are rarely seen. Standing alone, without competitors or an audience, Krakoff?s subjects look gentle, warm, humble, and disarmed. But with their signature tattoos and resilient bodies, it?s also clear that they are built for the cage.
The book features some of the biggest names in the UFC ? iconic fighters such as Chuck Liddell, Georges St-Pierre, and Matt Serra pose for the camera in ways that are real and revealing. Accompanying these shots are brief interviews that offer another perspective on these modern-day gladiators.

the best xmas present for ufc fans! November 9, 2008 i bought this book for my husband, who loves mma and the ufc, and it is just the best present i could have found for him! The pictures are beautiful and the stats very informative - but it is all done in a sophisticated way, not this tacky posed fight pictures you see usually. He was thrilled, and is planning to buy it for all his pay-per-view buddies for xmas!
The Fighters of the UFC - Review October 30, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I wasted my money on this one. I was (naively ?) expecting informative articles in the manner of a brief autobiography on each fighter - but not a word. Just posed B & W photographs - not even action photographs - and the author had the audacity to omit Randy Couture. It didn't take me long to throw this book out into the paper recyclable waste paper & cardboard, bin - the packaging was worth more than the book. It has taught me a lesson to be more careful before ordering a book.
Beautiful photos October 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just purchased this book today, and spent the afternoon in awe of the extremely high quality of the black and white photos. The portraits are breathtakingly beautiful; if you are a fan of black and white photography you will enjoy the manner in which the subjects are depicted. The pictures are raw and unassuming, and you will see the various fighters as never seen before, with expressions not seen in the cage, naked before the lens, and out of the context of competition. If you buy this book, you will see your favorites in a new light. Excellent work.
Be Aware That This Is A Coffee Table Book Of Photographs October 23, 2008 To be perfectly blunt and honest, I really have no interest whatsoever in this book, and still don't. I did however pick it up and look through it from front to back, which is an easy task to do since it is an entire book of black and white photographs of a virtual "Who's Who" in the UFC, in order to write an informed review of this book.
Each fighter has one quote on their introductory page and that is the limit of text being available in this book. Which is absolutely fine since this books sole purpose is to showcase the various fighters in a series of black and white photographs.
The photography is really quite good and captures a lot of the nuances of the fighters. If this is something that you are interested in, then by all means purchase this book right away and I am sure you will be absolutely thrilled with it.
