convenient tripod for night shots May 20, 2008 This was a birthday gift from my wife. It protects the front and back of our Sony W-200 point-n-shoot (can't imagine how it would damage the LCD screen unless there was a small pebble next to it), secured with a screw into the tripod socket. Fortunately, the camera's battery and memory card compartment is on the side, so I don't have to unscrew the case every time I change the battery/card. The tripod feature is inch long feet that extend from the bottom. The main thing I've used it for is to stabilize the camera for available light night shots when manual exposures are too long to hand hold.
As a guy, I like that the camera still fits into my pants pocket with the case on. For the price, we feel this case/mini-tripod is a great value.
not worth it - my camera got scratched May 19, 2008 I just received this and used it yesterday. When I opened it up, I discovered that 1/2 of my camera's screen had been really scratched up. I tested the material and I'm reasonably sure that it's not the neoprene that caused the scratches. Rather, it's more likely that something else scratched the screen through the wrapper. And that means I need to put my camera in a case to protect it - which is precisely what I bought this to avoid.
It's a really great idea but just doesn't cut it.
Great Idea ... Little Protection February 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ordered this after reading a magazine review on cool new tech ideas. imho, it's a great idea and snazzy design, but I had in my mind that it would provide better protection.
I believe the wrapper would only protect a camera from body scratches. The non-tripod version might be fine for exactly that purpose - some additional protection if you're inclined to lay your camera down on a counter at home, etc. The tripod itself isn't substantial enough for anything other than the occasional impromptu group shot, where you set the timer and zip over to join your friends.
Essentially, aside from an occasional afternoon when you tuck a camera in your pocket, cameras of all sizes are precision instruments & require protection. This clever wrap isn't a substitute for a protective case w/ a little portable tripod tucked inside. Obviously, your use and needs may vary!
