Vado Pocket Camera is delightful January 7, 2009 I have used the Vado for several weeks now, including taking it on vacation over the holidays. It works like a charm. The resolution is NOT HD, but is quite sufficient for most perposes. With the ability to store an hour or more of video, review it on camera and try again if necessary, its just what I wanted. Only issue is the the USB connection is short, so I use a 3 inch USB extension so the camera is still lying flat what I unload the videos to my PC and recharge the battery.
Great little video recorder January 6, 2009 The Vado is so handy. Small and unintrusive. Friends want to know what it is and where I got it. One hint..if you want to upload a whole little movie to YouTube and you aren't too techy just use your Windows Movie Maker, get a free code program to convert your wave file to mpg.
A Good Value, But Quality Not As Good As The Flip Ultra December 29, 2008 We found the "Creative Labs Vado" pocket camcorder on Amazon's Deal of the Day for roughly 1/2 the price of the Flip Video Ultra Series Camcorder, 60-Minutes (White) (which we already own and use a lot), it seemed to be worth the risk of buying it as a backup pocket camcorder. Here are my observations:
Pros: * Acceptable video quality *FOR THE PRICE* - The Vado is much more grainy and washed out than the Flip Ultra. * Has built in USB connector - Like the Flip Ultra, it is very short but the Flip includes an extension cable * Has Video Out - can be connected to a TV for playback, but no cables included (Flip Ultra includes the cables) * Large LCD screen - Bigger screen than the Flip Ultra * Saves files in AVI format - No conversion needed * Very Small - Much smaller form factor than the Flip Ultra * Internal Rechargable Batteries - Recharges from USB, Flip Ultra takes 2 AA batteries
Cons: * Low Video Quality - but again good for the price * Awful Audio Quality - Seriously bad audio quality almost makes the Vado useless for fliming beyond 10' or so
So for a really inexpensive camcorder, with YouTube usable quality, this is a fairly good option. For use in any meaningful way, not so much. We will give the Vado to our son and keep the Flip Ultra for our use.
Easy to use December 28, 2008 My 10-year-old loves this! He and his friends are making stupid movies and posting them on youtube for the rest of their friends to enjoy. I control what gets posted to youtube with password security. Anytime someone uses his name or some other detail that you don't want to share with child-predators, I just refuse to post it. The kids are learning a little internet safety while having fun being silly kids and creating movies and silly storylines. I highly recommend this as a toy for the middle-school age group.
"WARNING. Handling this product may expose you to chemicals known to cause cancer (?!!!)... December 28, 2008 and birth defects or other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling." Creative Labs and Amazon know that many Vados are purchased for children. They also know that we do not generally examine the interior flaps of boxes for important health warnings. Shame on you! Recall this product! Thanks, T. Gleason, for seeing the SMALL (5-point font) "notice" on the interior flap of the box.
