Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Compact Everio S memory camcorder makes sharing simple. This elegant, slim, lightweight camcorder boasts a Konica Minolta lens, 35x optical zoom, laser touch operation and sharing videos over the Internet is now easier than ever with the one-button uploading to YouTube, the leading video sharing site.It looks strikingly similar to the popular stylish Everio G series hybrid cameras, but is smaller due to recording directly to a SD card. Everio S also has all the convenience Everio is famous for.

1 out of 5 stars what a piece of crap!   December 27, 2008

I got this JVC GZ-MS100 for Christmas, and I must say it is of low quality. I have owned JVC video products before, and have always been impressed with their quality and reliability. But this particular camera I have to take issue with on several features: 1)the USB port-it is on the micro scale of USB ports, very small and quite difficult to connect the cable-it sits on the front of the camera, right next to one of the strap holders(a loop of metal that the strap is attached to). It is located so close to the strap holder that it is very difficult to attach the USB cable-it's like their research department never actually tried to connect a USB cable here. 2) the laser touch sensor-it makes menu navigation cumbersome and slow. 3)the image stabilizer does not seem to work at all on high zoom settings and just barely on normal wide setting. I wasn't expecting steady-cam level performance, but this is ridiculous. 4) As other reviewers have mentioned, it does not work with Macintosh. I have a 2008 iMac,and this camera is totally useless to me.I cannot get the files from the SDHC card into my Apple. The person who bought this for me knows I have an Apple computer, and said the salesman told her it works with Macintosh-WRONG! Reading the fine print on the carton it came in,under the heading "System Requirements" I see that it says for Macintosh "The software for Macintosh is not included."In the manual it has a page about File Backup on a Macintosh which basically tells you how,cable-wise, to attach the USB cable-it does not address the fact the CD-ROM has nothing that can be used by an Apple.Nor does their website offer any software driver downloads. 5)it is a terrible owner's manual. Not only is it written by Japanese who still do not understand English syntax, but there are entire areas of usability that are not even mentioned, such as a paragraph about files and format on the File Backup section,or how to use the included card reader. After being so impressed with JVC products years ago, I am shocked to see how far they have fallen.

Very good video quality and easy to use. Photo quality average at best but also very easy. I have yet to get the upload to YouTube to work like the instructions say.

5 out of 5 stars Great Video Camera   December 9, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

Pros...
I can begain this review by saying WOW. I've recived this camera as a
gift in the beginning of October of 08 and it has not let me down. I took this camera thru hell. It been dropped 2 time with in half an hour. Once from 3 feet high and another from the top of my Chevy aveo while driving down the street and its still working. I highly recommend you getting a camera that saves your video on a SD card because there are no moving parts and for a clumsy and easily forgetting where i placed my stuff this camera came in handy.

Con...
There's no night vision by there a small light that you can have come on automatically but it only great for close up shots. Another is the format it records at is .MOD. Now you can change the file to .AVI but you'll have to do some research on how you get it to work with Premiere pro or other video editing software.

Closing
I love this camera

2 out of 5 stars Returning tomorrow   December 7, 2008

I bought this camera today, used it for several hours and I really liked it. When I scrolled back through my still shots and watched the video, I thought it looked great in the LCD screen. However, when I brought it back home and uploaded everything to my computer, I was very disappointed with the quality. It only takes one size still photo: 640 x 480 and the images are suitable for the web, but that's about it. The video quality is likewise suitable for the web, and this camera is really geared towards the YouTube generation. I think this is a good camera for a beginner, but I've been using digital cameras for nearly 15 years and I'm just not satisfied with the quality.

Also, as a previous reviewer mentioned, the videos are in .mod format, and unrecognizable by most of the programs on my computer. I'm not a big YouTube user, but I did attempt to upload a video clip to my Facebook profile and was unable to because they didn't recognize the format.

3 out of 5 stars One Caveat   December 3, 2008

One caveat of note for the JVC Everio GZ-MS100 (and this may very well apply to other JVC models) the video files the camera produces are .mod files. These files are not read by XP Windows Movie Maker (JVC says VISTA has no problem with them, not confirmed by me) Also the software included is not for video editing and probably useless to anyone half way computer savvy. End result: without buying more software (maybe $70) you can't string together video clips, edit, etc. using what comes with the camera and XP. I'm using trial version of Cyberlink Director Pro but that will cost at least $70 if I want to purchase.
