Editorial Reviews:
Product Description The top of Manfrotto's range of center ball heads in die-cast aluminum with precision phenol resin ball. The 490's features make it versatile and ideal for digital and traditional photographic equipment from 35 mm to 8 x 10" format up to 26.4 lbs in weight. It features separate locks on 360 pan and +90 -90 tilt movements, with an additional friction control on the ball movement to give just the right resistance and smoothness with minimum effort, even with varying weights of equipment. The Maxi Ball Head attaches to the camera via a 2" platform with an ingeniously combined 1/4-20" and 3/8" male thread. Head to tripod attachment is 3/8" female.

Excellent Quality Ballhead April 3, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The Bogen-Manfrotto Maxi Ball Herad is first rate! It's build is rock solid, as is it's stability when used with a good quality tripod. I use it with my Canon 20D and a Canon 100-400mm lens. It is as steady as they come. There are less expensive heads out there, but you get what you pay for. Definitely recommended!
